Gapland, Maryland (DC News Now) — Looking for a weekend getaway? Visit Maryland's South Mountain Corridor for Spring Festival. Craftsmen say it's well worth the time.
This is your chance to experience a laid back, casual but creative lifestyle.
Escape from city life and introduce out-of-towners to metalworker David Dufficy. He uses his 2,000-degree coal forge and anvil to heat and shape the metal. He is perfect for making keepsakes such as keepsake keychains.
“You'll see some amazing crafts being made here,” Dufficy said. “It might be a good opportunity to see things you don't usually get to see.”
Circe Martin is passionate about creating ceramics. His coffee mugs are popular items at specialty coffee shops in Frederick and Washington counties.
You can witness his creative talent at the festival, which will be held from May 18th to May 19th.
“You get to see the studio experience,” Martin said of the events he and other artisans participate in. “The lifestyle we live. Creativity never stops.”
Creativity never ends, he says.
“These types of events allow people to experience the studio experience, the lifestyle that we live,” he added.
Homemade soaps made from scratch using fresh goat milk will also be available for purchase at the event, as Alice Orzechowski of Capricorn Goat Farm has developed the process based on good science.
“Made with Fresh goat milk, and since we are a dairy company, we have to meet high quality standards for the milk we use,” says Orzechowski.
The weekend also attracts jewelers, landscape painters, winemakers, distillers and specialty cider creators.
