RAPIDS CITY, South Dakota – Residents have a few weeks left to vote for their favorite piece of art to be featured on the city's snowplows next winter.
The city's Department of Public Works and the Susie Kappa Art Center are teaming up to display art on the blades of three of the city's snowplows. The public can participate in a month-long contest to choose the top three of his six works designed by members of the Black Hills Works program.
You can vote online at https://bit.ly/RapidCityStreetsArt2024 or in person at City Hall. The art will be displayed on the poster along with a QR code for voting.
The deadline for applications is May 21st, and winners will be announced at the Night With Public Works event at City Hall on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 at 6pm. The winning entries will be turned into large vinyl stickers and placed on the blades of snowplows. These newly designed blades will be unveiled at the Touch-A-Truck event in September as part of the Community Pumpkin Festival in downtown Rapid City. Colorful snow removal blades will come in handy during the coming winter season.
“We are thrilled to be working with Susie Kappa Art Center to showcase the work of these amazing artists. Transforming plowshares into art displays will provide great exposure for these extremely talented artists. We are honored to host their creativity on our equipment,” said Interim Assistant Public Works Director Shannon Tuax. “We encourage and welcome the public to check out and vote on her six options for consideration:
