RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Artemi Panarin redirected a pass between his legs at the crease to beat Pyotr Kochetkov just 1:43 into overtime and the New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. They defeated the team 3-2 and took a 3-0 lead. in the second round of the playoff series.
Panarin scored after Carolina defenseman Dmitri Orlov lost control of the puck in the corner of the defensive zone. Vincent Trocheck collected the ball on the right side and sent it toward the crease to Panarin, who tipped the puck back as defenseman Jalen Chatfield tried to push it away from the crease.
The puck slid under Kochetkov's right elbow and through his ribs, sending Panarin into a celebration, and soon the Rangers joined him near the door to the tunnel from the ice.
The Rangers can complete the sweep in Game 4 here Saturday night.
