Lena Dunham is determined to spread a message of “love and hope” with her new Netflix show.
The 37-year-old star is busy working on Too Much, which is about a girl who moves from America to London after a breakup, and Lena gave fans an insight into what they can expect.
Regarding her “target audience,” Lena told Variety, “We're aiming for the girls who pulled Geography after a breakup. We've been filming for three weeks and it's been a great experience.”
The new series will feature the likes of Megan Stalter and Will Sharp, and Lena hopes the show will help spread positivity.
She said, “I love seeing women in crisis get what they deserve in a good way, and that's what we're all about with this show.”
“Also, speaking of this time in the world, I'm trying to make something that's full of love and joy and hopefully sharp and edgy and includes all the naughty scenes that people are used to seeing from me, but at the core. I'm trying to create something that has a kind of underlying love and message: hope.”
Lena is probably best known as the creator and writer of HBO's hit series Girls, which aired from 2012 to 2017, and the actress has been surprised by the show's recent revival among young people.
She said: “It was crazy and wild and not what I expected.
“Both the cast and I, if someone sends us a funny meme, we'll share it. I'll be 38 in May. I started writing this show when I was 23. I was like, 'If I make it.'” Pilot, wow, what a life experience. ” So the fact that someone out there is still watching shows that aired before Instagram was invented?! What the hell?”
