“A daily journey.” This is how Katrina Kaif defines her role at the beauty brand she co-founded in 2019, and it's a role she takes very seriously. Kay Beauty may be a cosmetics company, but skin care is at the core of all its formulations.
The brand was launched in the UAE this month in partnership with Indian retailer Nykaa's first beauty store Nysaa's apparel group in Dubai's City Center Mirdif.
“There's still a misconception that makeup is bad for your skin,” Kaif says. The National via Zoom call from my parents' home in the UK. “But all of our products, which we spend months researching before selling, contain skin-friendly ingredients, whether it's chamomile oil or almond oil. When you apply a skin-friendly formula, , not only will you look better, but you will also feel more confident.”
To that end, the Indian celebrity urges beauty gurus to rely on intuition, observation, and good old common sense to learn how to tell what does and doesn't suit your skin.
“Some obvious parameters to consider are how the product feels on the skin and how the color transfers to the skin,” says Kaif. Kaif's cruelty-free brand caters to a variety of skin tones, making it a staple in multicultural hubs. India and UAE.
“It's all about the texture. So how does lipstick transfer to your lips? Does your makeup transfer the same way when you try it on your hands or when you apply it to your face? Kajal doesn't drag the eye. , it needs to run smoothly, and foundation should always respect the natural texture of the skin. These are all important performance points for me as a discerning makeup user,” she says. I will explain.
Flawless skin remains the best base for makeup, and Kaif is at the top of her game when it comes to the skin care aspect of beauty. But she points out that this often goes far beyond lotions and potions.
I always start my day with 4 glasses of water

“I don't think there's anything that can replace a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle can mean everything from your diet and exercise habits to your self-care habits. Eating clean and avoiding sugar and Avoid inflammatory ingredients and do yoga. These are age-old hacks that have been passed down for generations and they work.”
To this end, Kaif reveals about her own regimen: “I always start my day with four glasses of water, which can include anything from boiled ginger and lemon to fennel and cumin seeds.
“Next, I spend some time with myself, whether it's breathing exercises or a little meditation or yoga. It's transformative, and it changes the way I feel in life, physically, mentally, and aesthetically. I think it will have an impact on all areas.”
Kaif's pre-makeup ritual, especially when she's planning to appear on the red carpet, is to ice her skin. “Red carpets and fashion shoots allow you to experiment with makeup and try new things. But I always ice my face beforehand. It wakes up the skin, closes the pores, and makes the makeup go on smoothly. “I found out it was going to be,” she says.
That said, Kaif loves smokey eyes and dewy skin, and while she thinks it's a forever trend, overly complicated makeup routines are going out of style. It's a trend. “Most of our lives and the world around us move at such a hectic pace that everyone would do well to simplify their beauty routines,” she says.

“Still, one of the important products to include every day, especially considering the hot climate of India and the United Arab Emirates, is a high-quality sunscreen. The consequences of not using sunscreen are: It may not show up today, but it will show up eventually. Likewise, use a gentle cleanser that doesn't strip the skin. You lose your balance and get stuck in a catch-up game,” says Kaif in her trademark matter-of-fact tone.
The Roller Coaster actress is also a fan of multipurpose products. “This is actually one of the founding principles of Kay Beauty, and Kay Beauty has launched an eye crayon and a lip pencil, both of which are completely versatile. To date, products offered by Kay Beauty About 60 percent of it is used for multiple purposes.”
Her personal favorite is the Illuminating Liquid Luminizer, which she likes to mix with foundation or cream blush for added glow.
As the brand prepares to debut in the UAE, the actress said: “This country is known for its keen eye for beauty so I'm very excited.” She said she wants to come to the Emirates more often for ground events and interact with consumers who she is sure will love the brand.
Putting aside the celebrity factor, Kaif says, “You can't go wrong with a prescription that is gentle on the skin and has an impact on your appearance.”
