It's hard to find affordable rent these days, so one woman went underground to give it a try.
Caitlin, from California, is showing off her new lifestyle after moving into a bunker in a friend's backyard.
The renter, who assures viewers he's not a conspiracy theorist, is paying just $500 a month for the 1,100-square-foot basement home he moved into in April.
Although there is no natural light, the home has enough bunk beds to sleep over 20 of her closest friends, keeping everyone safe in the event of a major disaster.
Katelyn, who documents her unusual home on TikTok, explained that a friend of hers bought a house on the property a few years ago, and it even came with a bunker.
“I just pitched an idea: 'Hey, why don't you rent this place to me? That way, when you guys want to sell the place, we can make sure everything is normal there. “You can see that it's working,” she explained. Real estate agent.
“With current housing costs and interest rates, I could only live here for a year,” she says. “And see if everything calms down a little.”
There is water in the well and all electricity is provided by solar panels, so there are utilities inside the bunker as well.
Entrance to the house is through one of two hidden doors in the ground. However, Caitlin noticed there was no doorbell and he was only using one door.
She also assured concerned fans that no one would be leaving their cars on top of her exit as this is a private residence and not a parking lot, despite being in a paved area. Did.
The front door is quite heavy, but once inside the bunker is divided into two separate areas.
One side is arranged like a living room and kitchen, while the other end has the main bedroom and one bathroom.
There's ample storage space with multiple underfloor areas to store your belongings, and there's also a row of bunk beds and a separate bathroom.
In her TikToks, Caitlyn opened up about her day-to-day life in the bunker, including how her dating life works out.
In a recent video, Caitlin admits she had a potential boyfriend, but she was scared he might come visit her in her basement home.
“I've known this guy for a while, and when he found out I was moving back to the area, he asked me out on a date,” she explained.
“I didn’t tell him where I lived when we talked; And during the day he'd say, 'Where did you move to?' and I started talking to him,” she continued.
Caitlin said her date looked at her like he didn't “understand” what she was saying.
“I think he thought I was talking about the theme department or something,” she joked.
She eagerly went to see him, but when she went down the stairs to open the bunker door, he was still standing above ground.
“I asked, are you coming down?” she recalled. “And he said, 'You know, I don't think so.'”
Initially worried that he looked “like a serial killer,” he realized that living in a bunker might not be for everyone.
“So maybe this is the year I don't date anyone,” she joked.
