Bird watching walk
Sanctuary Forest and local birder and photographer Ann Constantino will present the “Birds of South Humboldt” walk on Saturday, May 11th at South Humboldt Community Park.
Participants check for quick movements and swallow movements under bridges and decide which direction to proceed based on the previous week's scouting. People can expect to see nesting behavior and possibly chicks of many species, including Blue Bunting, Western Kingfisher, several species of Swallows, Western Bluebird, Black-bellied Warbler, and more. White-tailed kites can sometimes be seen hunting. Look for less common species such as grasshopper sparrows and chipping sparrows, and maybe even green woodpeckers.
All will meet at Toobee Memorial Park, 934 Sproul Creek Road, Garberville, at 8 a.m. The easy walk takes 2-3 hours. Participants should bring sturdy shoes, binoculars, lunch, water, and sunscreen. (No dogs allowed.) The hike is free, but donations are also accepted each year to help provide this program.
We recommend RSVPing for all hikes as details are subject to change. To RSVP, email anna@sanctuaryforest.org or call 707-986-1087, ext. 9#. For more information about the outing, call Ann Constantino at 707-296-8720.

Mr. Feinstein will cycle around the facility, which includes the head plant, treatment wetlands, oxidation ponds, and enhanced wetlands (without entering the co-op yard) and explain their functions and relationships.
Everyone must bring their own bike. All ages are welcome. The event will be canceled due to heavy rain. For more information, please call the Interpretation Center at 707-826-2359.
