She's a beautiful woman who doesn't show her age.
A 60-year-old Argentine lawyer is in the spotlight and is one step closer to making history as she dreams of becoming the oldest Miss Universe contestant.
According to HOLA!, Alejandra Rodriguez was crowned Miss Universe Buenos Aires on Wednesday with the right to represent her state at the national pageant in May.
Rodriguez believed she was getting too old to compete in international beauty pageants, but changed rules made her change her mind.
When the pageant was founded in 1952, Miss Universe contestants had to fall within a strict age range of 18 to 28, be single, and have no children.
But the pageant ruled last year that women between the ages of 18 and 73 would be allowed to compete, regardless of other factors.
The increase in the age requirement was announced last September and will be implemented for the first time from the 2024 tournament.
Gabrielle is currently the oldest contestant to claim the Miss Universe title, having won in 2022 at the age of 28.
The newly crowned Miss Buenos Aires told Argentine television station El Treche that she became a journalist after graduating high school, then studied law and became a hospital lawyer.
Rodriguez, whose appearance still attracts attention, attributes it to her lifestyle, saying she follows her diet and stays active.
“The basic thing is to live a healthy life, eat well and be physically active,” she told the outlet.
“Normal care, nothing special, and there's a bit of a genetic component.”
The 60-year-old says she tries to eat healthy.
“What I try to do is intermittent fasting, which I think helps a lot. Then I try to eat organic food, lots of fruit, lots of vegetables, and use good cream.”
Rodriguez says she exercises three times a week, mainly walking and jogging. “I'm not extreme.
Rodriguez won the Miss Buenos Aires competition out of 35 contestants of various ages.
“There were 35 participants, of all ages, with the oldest ranging from 18 to 73. There were no age categories,” Rodriguez said.
The newly crowned Miss Buenos Aires is thrilled to be competing and proud to be one of the faces of modern beauty pageants.
Her eyes are now set on the Miss Argentina pageant, which begins in Buenos Aires on May 25th.
“We are about to start a new phase where women have different values than just physical beauty, so we are excited to represent this new paradigm in the beauty pageant. “According to HOLA!, I'm the first person in this generation to start doing this,” Rodriguez said.
The Miss Universe pageant is scheduled for September 28, 2024.
