On Thursday, April 25th, Atlantic Chamber Ambassadors were on hand to celebrate the opening of their new business, Holy Grail Antiques, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Ambassadors had the opportunity to meet the owners and tour the unique retail space located in an old church.
Alan Guttenfelder, co-owner of Holy Grail Antiques, began collecting antiques in college around 1996. Alan's passion for antiques grew over the years, and he owned and operated a store in St. Paul, Minnesota from 2007 until 2011. In 2013, Alan returned to Iowa to care for his mother and became a sales associate at various area stores. Alan always had a dream of opening another store in Atlantic. In 2023, the Templeman family showed Alan around the church, and Alan fell in love with the stained glass windows and the endless possibilities.
Fast forward to today, and Alan and his nine vendors display antiques in a variety of styles, from farmhouse to luxury to mid-century modern, on two levels of the church. Alan is looking forward to being part of the community and is especially looking forward to Christmas in the Atlantic, enjoying the city's extensive Christmas decorations and lots of lights. Holy Grail is currently open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alan and his team continue to renovate the church's basement with the hope that one day they will be able to host occasional parties and reading groups.
Holy Grail Antiques is located at 801 Chestnut Street in Atlantic.
