Beauty extends deep into the skin. This is especially true for dermatologists.
New York City dermatologist Dr. Mark Strom (who goes by @dermarktologist on TikTok) posted a video talking about four products that have “completely transformed” his skin.
“I've tried just about every skin care trend under the sun and these are some of the ones I plan on sticking with for the rest of my life,” he wrote, which has garnered over 19,000 views since posting. The day before I talked about it in the video.
Number one on his list is to use sunscreen every day.
“The sun is the number one cause of premature skin aging and skin cancer,” he explained to his 920,000 followers.
He said that much of the sunlight we get is actually “ambient sunlight exposure,” or what we get “as we walk around on a normal day.” He believes that wearing sunscreen every day helps protect his skin.
The second thing that's giving him glowing skin is prescribed retinoids.
Even though he doesn't have acne that can be treated with retinoids, he says he's been using prescription-strength tretinoin since he was 23 and that it has done wonders for “evening out my skin and keeping it smooth and firm.” He explained that it had a “good effect”.
He said that if he could only use one treatment to make his skin beautiful for the rest of his life, it would be retinoids, not Botox or lasers.
His third go-to skin item is Vaseline as a lip balm.
“I haven't had chapped lips in all these years,” he said. He said using the jelly as a lip balm made his lips feel “the softest,” even when he was prescribed the acne drug Accutane.
Number four on his list is antiperspirant, but the caveat is to use it at night.
He said that before using it at night, the product didn't seem to be working and was still leaving behind sweat and unsightly pit stains. But making it part of my nightly routine changed everything.
The Post has reached out to Strom for additional comment.
Commenters below his post shared their thoughts on his skin tips. Some said he felt the same way, while others said they would not take his advice.
“My lips have never been chapped since I started using Vaseline on my lips,” said one person.
“I do all these things too 🤩,” said another.
“I'm not going to wear deodorant at night. Stop trying to make that happen. 🙄 But the rest is fact,” chimed in a third person.
“In hot and humid countries, using deodorant at night doesn't help,” another person commented.
