True Vine Brewing Company is providing clean water to those affected by boil water notices.
TYLER, Texas — Thousands of West Tyler residents were left in the lurch Monday morning after a water main burst, causing major damage to a portion of the sidewalk and road in front of Sam's Club off Loop 323 in the City of Tyler. They are still under boil water warnings.
The City of Tyler announced Tuesday that the broken pipe that caused the boil water call has been repaired and water samples have been taken to a lab. However, the boil water notice is still in effect.
“When repairs are completed will determine when we can take the samples needed to cancel the boil water notice,” said Kate Dietz, Tyler Utilities Director.
True Vine Brewing Company is one of approximately 3,400 connections affected. But that hasn't stopped them from helping the community, said general manager Kelly Clark.
“The tank here collects water from the city. The water comes into the pipe from the back where you can't see it,” Clark said. “What we offer the community is that you can bring your own container, up to 5 gallons, and we will fill it for you. It's still a little hot so the water will be hot, but it's drinkable. You can use it and use it however you like, so we want to give you as much as possible.”
Across the street at Lemon Yellow Latin Bites, co-owner Tahidi Perez said it's mostly business as usual.
“We're not doing empanadas or alpeas right now because everything is done with water,” Perez said.
Perez said Tuesday is typically a day to prepare for the weekend rush.
“I don't know if we'll have enough for the rest of this week,” Perez said.
In the meantime, they are taking all steps possible to stay open.
“We have water here, we have boiling water here…this is beef, so we boil the water before we cook it,” Perez said.
