BOISE, ID (CBS2) — This business is for people who know a lot about cars, but don't have the equipment to do all the repairs themselves.
“We rent everything from lift bays to tools and specialized equipment to basically complete any job in a safe manner,” said DIY Auto Repair co-owner Regan Waskowiak. “We help people who are in the industry and just want to know what they're doing or who want to learn something new.”
Waskowiak said most of his customers are mechanics, car dealers, gearheads and people who take pride in their cars.
“We recognized a need in the community in that people have the space, and it doesn't make sense for someone to spend $300 on a brake line flare tool that they will only use once on their car. . Buy that tool and put it here for multiple people to use,” said Chris Waskoviak, co-owner of DIY Auto Repair. “He has a $1,000 computer that I can connect to the car. This means they can come and not only use that tool, but someone who knows how to use these specialized tools can help. This is a place where you can get it.”
One customer said he has been coming to DIY Auto Repair since it opened in October.
“It's easier to do it here than on your back in your garage or driveway or wherever you live,” said customer Will Harrison. “It’s cost-effective, just in terms of tools and time.”
Harrison knows a lot about cars, but he always needs some extra help.
“When you put multiple people together on a problem, it's easier to get to a solution much faster than if you rack your brain, go to YouTube University, and try to solve the problem,” Harrison said. says. “It allows more people to participate. It allows us to get to the root of the problem faster.”
DIY auto repair is a more convenient option, especially if you get parts delivered quickly.
“We're basically offering all the benefits of a professional mechanic shop to the general public,” Waskowiak said. “We've set up commercial accounts with all the local parts suppliers here in town. We offer discounts to our customers, so you can get the same prices as the repair shop.”
Elevator bay rentals are $50 per hour. If you want a real mechanic to help you with your repairs, it will cost you $110 per hour.
“If you want us to take over, we have that option,” Waskowiak said. “$130 an hour is the rate at our store. No matter what happens, there's always someone here to help you. That's why we never flame anyone. We… I want to help people who are in this industry and just need help.'' I want to lift up people who want to learn something new and give them some idea of what they're doing. is. ”
Waskowiak said there are about 100 different “do-it-yourself” auto repair shops around the country, but this is the first one in the Treasure Valley.
“It's really exciting,” Waskowiak said. “I get a lot of calls saying, 'Are you sure you're renting out elevator bays?' And I thought, 'Yeah, I really am!' We have everything you need, including tools and special equipment. We do liquid disposal. You can get great discounts on parts through many commercial stores here in Boise. ”
Waskoviak says DIY Auto Repair is a timely option for people who want to repair their cars.
“You can't replace a mechanic. There are a lot of mechanic shops out there, and some are really great. We're friends with a lot of people in the industry. There's no replacement for a mechanic. Mechanic It's not supposed to replace a mechanic. It's more efficient because there might be a shop available on time, but it might be months away, and it's not going to replace a mechanic right now. Some people need it done right away,” Waskowiak said.
The Waskoviaks are both from Boise. Give local businesses a try.
“People will be surprised at what they can do,” Waskowiak said. “This is a dream come true, and I want to help others achieve this.”
