The difference between professional wrestling and sports entertainment has long been debated among fans. WWE once proudly called itself a sports entertainer. Now that is changing. WWE superstars are finally calling themselves professional wrestlers. AEW World Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe recently shared his thoughts on the subject.
Prior to AEW Big Business, Samoa Joe was interviewed by Joe Murray on 98.5 The Sports Hub. During an interview, Samoan Submission Machine shared his thoughts on the differences between sports entertainment and professional wrestling. Joe appreciated both forms of wrestling. The AEW World Heavyweight Champion also claimed that while the mainstream used to only recognize the term sports entertainment, they are now more aware of what professional wrestling is and are embracing the art form.
“We call it professional wrestling. We're very proud of that label. When it comes to sports entertainment, one or the other is very debatable. I believe in both. Which? I think it's also a great art form. But when it comes to AEW, we're pro wrestling. And we're pro wrestlers and we're proud of it. We've made it maybe more acceptable to the mainstream. It's not like I'm trying to change it into something that's easy to lose. I think the mainstream is perfectly fine with the pro wrestling label. At this point, the semantics are just ridiculous on both sides. I'll be honest with you. Both sides have it. I think they're just being a little bit dumb about it, and I think the main reason the other side is being dumb about it is probably gone, so maybe they'll change their attitude,” Samoa Joe said. Ta.
