Derrick Whibley feels “excited about the future.”
The 43-year-old music star is currently preparing for Sam 41's farewell tour, The Tour of the Setting Sam, and Derrick is already looking forward to the next chapter in his life.
He told Us Weekly: “I might feel a little different as we get closer to the end of the tour.
“But I'm really excited about that as well. Not just to get past Sum 41, but to try new things and expand and grow and be creative in other ways and see where we go.” I'm excited about the future thinking 'life will take me. ”
Sum 41 previously announced that their new album “Heaven:x:Hell'' will be their last.
And Derrick believes the chart-topping band is leaving the music scene at the perfect time.
He explained: “I thought, 'What? I've had these thoughts for a few years now,' and I usually brush them off and say, 'Stop thinking like that. You're on Sum 41, and this. Stop thinking about doing anything else because that's all you're supposed to do and what a wonderful life. ”
”[But] When I was just sitting and listening to music. I thought, “I'm going to hang my hat here and say this is my last record.” I feel like we've said and done everything we needed to do. ”
Derrick also hailed the new record as a “full circle moment” for the group.
He said: “This is a complete evolution of the band as a whole.
“I'm like, 'What a great way to get out of this situation.' Not only that, but I feel like this album is unique to us. We've been in this lane since the beginning, and it's our own.” It took a long time for pop-punk bands to figure out the way to go with metal influences.”
