ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The City of Albany's legendary movie theater is once again bringing movies to the silver screen. The Spectrum 8 Theater on Delaware Avenue will reopen under the management of Scene One Entertainment.
Spectrum 8 opened in 1983 and held its final screening on February 22nd. The theater was known for showing films in a variety of genres, including independent films, foreign films, avant-garde films, and widely released feature films.
When the theater reopens, many of its popular features will return. Scene One Entertainment is owned by Capital Region native Joe Musher.
“Following the overwhelming response to last month's theater closures, I, along with the building owners, needed to act quickly to reopen the theaters,” Masher said in a press release. “I have worked very closely with [Spectrum 8 co-founder] Keith Pickard brings heart and soul back to Spectrum. The art gallery will reopen and the monthly calendar will also be reinstated. ”
Additionally, moviegoers can also look forward to the return of the theater's locally made cakes.
Real butter on pastries, cookies, mint brownies, and popcorn. Spectrum plans to serve alcohol once it receives a liquor license.
This will be Scene One Entertainment's third theater in upstate New York, with Scene One Movieland in Schenectady and Scene One Wilton Mall Cinemas.
The theater is scheduled to be operational in April.
