If there's one thing I learned during my time in Butte County, it's that there is no shortage of events in the world of arts and entertainment.
The purpose of this new weekly column is to keep you informed about these events while also providing my insight into the world of local and global entertainment. You might even say it's my passion.
First of all, I love theater and have been in shows myself (a recent example being “Fiddler on the Roof” at Chico Theater Company last year. It was Dell). There are so many other great theaters in the area that I look forward to writing about. And there seems to be no shortage of theater.
One example is the comedy “Fools,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Jennifer Beers. The production will be performed at Birdcage Theater in Auroville on March 21-23 and March 29-30 at 7:30 p.m., and on March 24 and March 24 at 7:30 p.m. . March 31 at 2 p.m. The theater is located at 1740 Bird St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors or students. For more information and tickets, visit www.birdcagetheatre.org.
I also write about art, highlighting all of the great museums and galleries in the area, including the Northern California Museum of Art and the Chico History Museum. A great event called Explore Butte County was held on February 24th and 25th. In this event, museums and galleries will have free admission for his entire one weekend a year.
And then there's the music, with many great bands continuing Butte County's rich tradition of live performance. From performances at Chico State University's Lacson Auditorium to the coffee shop/venue Naked Lounge to his company's Big Room at Sierra Nevada Brewing, there's almost always great sound coming from downtown Chico and the surrounding area. I'm looking forward to that report. More of them.
Elsewhere, for starters, the Decays Band will continue its era-changing repertoire with a show at Feather Falls Brewing Company on March 9th from 10:15pm to midnight. Listen to everything from “In the Mood” to today's music. “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.Seating begins at 10 p.m.
Additionally, the Butte Baroque Spring Concert will be held March 16th at noon. This is a spring chamber music concert featuring Baroque and Baroque-inspired works for strings, organ, and oboe. Featured composers include Bach, Vivaldi, Buxtehude, Johann Ludwig Krebs, Ethel Smith, and Walter Piston. This concert will be held at the newly renovated St. John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 435 Chestnut Street. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students/children: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/6246197.
I'm also a big fan of stand-up comedy and have been to shows at Gnarly Deli, El Rey, and Sierra Nevada, so I'll be previewing (and possibly reviewing) those comedy shows. Comedy at the Station, featuring a full lineup of comedians, will be held at Mulberry Station Brewing Company, 175 East 20th St., on March 17th from 8 to 10 p.m.
