The “Scary Movie” series is making a comeback.
Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon on Thursday (April 24, 11) that a sixth film in the horror parody series is in development.
Neal H. Moritz, known for his work on the films “Sonic the Hedgehog'' and “Fast and Furious,'' is set to produce the new film, but will regular cast members such as Anna Faris and Regina Hall return? Not sure.
The series was developed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, Sean Wayans, and Marlon Wayans, with the latter pair starring in the first two films.
The original “Scary Movie” was released in theaters in 2000 and parodied horror films such as “Scream” and “I Know What I Did Last Summer.” After that, four sequels were made that poked fun at films such as Saw and Rings.
By the time Scary Movie 5, starring neither Faris nor Hall, was released in 2013, interest in the series had waned, box office sales were poor, and the film was put on hiatus.
The Wayans were not involved after the third film, and Marlon claims the film was “snatched” from them by the Weinstein Company, led by disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Speaking with Kevin Hart on the Comedy Gold Mines podcast, the 51-year-old actor said, “We didn't walk away from the franchise. They didn't want to sign us, so we cut it. I snatched it,” he said.
“We never walked away from the franchise that we created. It was picked up and we, the creators, were like, 'Okay, we can bet on it.'” Here we go, what I created. please look. ”
Marlon also recalled that it wasn't until the family read a news article around Christmas that they realized they would no longer be involved.
“The second time they shoved us in, and the third time they didn't want to pay, so they snatched the money. We found out over Christmas that they had hired someone else to do it.”
