ANDERSON — Twelve guest artists will gather on the Paramount Theater stage to celebrate Anderson Symphony Orchestra music director Richard Sowers.
Artists including Sandy Patti, John McLaughlin, Ryan Aalward, Heather Lake Bays, Lawrence Bowley and Leah Crane will perform in “An Evening of Song,” which opens at the Paramount Theater on March 23. Join ASO for this purpose.
The concert will be the fifth installment of the “Maestro” season, named after Sours' final season.
Sowers is retiring after more than 35 years of service. His last concert is scheduled for April 20th.
When asked how he felt, Sours said he wanted to focus on the present.
He was excited about the “evening of song,” especially considering that seven of the 12 guests were participating in the Anderson University Chorale. He took the helm of the Anderson University Chorale before retiring in 2021 after nearly 40 years of service.
The upcoming concert promises to be an evening filled with a variety of music, from popular songs to operatic arias.
It will also be the world premiere of the “Spiritual Medley,'' a mix of African American spirituals arranged by one of the night's featured artists, Paul Langford.
Other songs include “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “Hold the Line,” and “Love in Any Language.” The concert concludes with “The Sound of Music Medley” and the artists join Sandy Patti on stage.
A gala will be held prior to the concert, including dinner and cocktails. Tickets can be purchased online.
