Jimmy Fallon & the Roots knew exactly who to call when it came time to perform their hilarious new song. Ghost Busters Theme song.
tonight show On Friday's episode, the host and his band teamed up with singer Ray Parker Jr. and original Ghostbusters Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson to perform the 1984 film using only small classroom instruments. They played hit songs. And naturally, they did it all in their own personalized jumpsuits, in a neon green, ectoplasm-encrusted room.
The group began their set by playing the track's eerie intro in complete darkness as alarms flashed in the background. As the song accelerated, the lights came on and showed Fallon playing a kazoo and hitting a block, Parker playing a triangle, Murray playing a kazoo, and Hudson playing a kazoo. Members of the Roots accompanied them, playing the xylophone, bongos, melodica, ukulele, tambourine, and more.
Parker sang most of the themes himself, but the team often chimed in with legendary lyrics like “Bustin' make you feel better!” Then he yelled, “Ghostbusters!” in a call-and-response chorus.
At the end of their performance, everyone's favorite ghost, Slimer, made a cameo appearance, appearing behind the band and charging towards the screen, covering the entire thing in bright green ectoplasm.
