RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Many families treat mom to a nice lunch or dinner on Mother's Day, which could mean extra business for restaurants in downtown Raleigh.
One novice business owner said that's one reason he opened a new store just in time for the holidays.
“We had the grand opening of our new store and are now located here on Glenwood Avenue,” said Tiana Davis, owner of On Board Charcuterie & Catering.
Davis said she has worked in commercial kitchens for four years and is now setting up shop in downtown Raleigh. She opened just a week before her Mother's Day and set herself that deadline as a way to honor her own mother, she said.
“Well, that's especially important to me because my own mother is ill. She has Alzheimer's disease. And what I've been doing and how I wanted to celebrate her this year. I thought it would be a great tribute to her to show her one of these,” Davis said.
Despite spending Mother's Day working, Davis had a surprise time to spend with her family.
“They were so sorry to see my mother working on Mother's Day that they surprised me and everyone came out and sat with me and ate charcuterie and drank champagne,” she said with her husband. he said about his children.
This time of year is always busy for Davis. Other restaurants are also increasing their opening hours over Mother's Day weekend.
“The lunch crowd in particular is much busier than the evening, and it usually lasts from noon until about 7pm,” said Sushi-O owner John Tan.
Tang said that although this year's growth is slightly slower than expected, it is still stable.
“We have a lot of mothers and families. So we have some walk-ins as well, so that's very helpful,” he said.
Business owners say downtown Raleigh is a good place to spend time, even when it's not the holidays.

“I think so because we've been here for 14 years. And we're not going anywhere,” Tan said.
Davis added, “What's amazing is the number of people who saw us on Instagram and said they saw us… They came up and told us how they heard about us. “That's really great,'' he added. It's exciting for me. ”
Mother's Day is just one of two important days in May for businesses. The restaurant is currently preparing for Memorial Day, and the owners said they expect to see a lot of customers on that day as well.
