Triple A group Prytania Media continues its spate of studio closures with the closure of Dawon Entertainment.
Dawon just opened in August 2023. Post on Linkedin It was announced that it would close on May 10, 2024.
“We had the great pleasure of collaborating on a great project, motivated by a vision of what mobile gaming could look like in India and abroad. We now believe that it would have changed the world. But I believe,” the statement reads.
“But take note: Our developers still have that potential. They are some of the most skilled and grounded people in the industry. There are open positions that may be a good fit for them. If so, please contact me.”
Prytania described Dawon as the first “emerging market studio.” The company is based in Bangalore, India and was led by award-winning designer Whitney Beltran, formerly of Hidden Path Entertainment.
Dawon was founded to develop “culturally focused” titles and claimed to be produced “by Indian developers, for Indian players.”
At the time of Dawon's founding, Prytania operated four studios under its banner: Fang & Claw, Possibility Space, Crop Circle Games, and Dawon itself. Three of his studios have since been discontinued.
Prytania closed crop circles in March After initially furloughing the development team. Those affected publicly criticized Prytania's leadership for its handling of the situation.
A few weeks later, Prytania called time in possible space.. In a strange twist, Prytania co-founder Jeff Strain tried to blame its closure on a (at the time) unpublished report from Kotaku. He claimed that certain team members leaked information to Kotaku about an upcoming project codenamed “Vonnegut,” which resulted in the project being canceled. Those affected claimed that the dismissals occurred “without notice.”
