What you need to know about the 2024 Oscars
Bradley Cooper remains the ultimate motherfucker, bringing his mother Gloria as his date to the Oscars, even while romancing supermodel Gigi Hadid. But he has to love how little (literally) mama Gloria shines when her son towers over her on the red carpet. In his opening monologue, host Jimmy Kimmel couldn't resist a jab at Cooper about potentially playing Freud after he was nominated for an Oscar for playing Leonard Bernstein in The Maestro. It might have been the highlight of the night for an actor destined for his 10th loss tonight.
Jimmy Kimmel gave the Oscars staff a standing ovation, noting their hard work and upcoming contract negotiations. “And this show tonight is really long, so I'll make sure there's a lot of overtime.”
Jimmy Kimmel's monologue is very powerful…some jokes fall flat…
Kimmel joked about the movies being too long, saying, “This year's movies were too long. Thirty minutes longer than three years ago. When I went to see 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' I was in the mail. “I had it transferred to the theater,” he said.
Kimmel asked “Oppenheimer” nominee Robert Downey Jr., “Do you have an acceptance speech in your pocket, or do you have a very rectangular penis?” The joke failed.
Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel couldn't help but say to “Barbie” Ken Ryan Gosling during his show-opening monologue:
“Ryan, you're so nice. Don't tell your wives, let's go camping together.”
Jimmy Kimmel told Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie during his Oscars monologue: “Even if neither of you wins an Oscar tonight, you have already won something much more important: the genetic lottery.”
Jimmy Kimmel name-checked Greta Gerwig, who wasn't nominated for an Oscar for “Barbie,” joking, “And you didn't vote for her.”
Kimmel jokes about big-screen bombshell “Madame Web.” “Are you off to a bad start?”
Jimmy Kimmel jokes that he gets a “partial standing ovation” when he takes the stage to host the Oscars. Audiences clearly love him.
Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o hits the red carpet with new boyfriend Joshua Jackson (who will forever be Pacey from Dawson's Creek to us) despite the steamy beach photos we've seen so far I chose not to. Couple with each other. Instead, the beautiful Lupita was a powder-blue vision alongside her upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One co-star Joseph Quinn.
