ORLANDO, Fla. — The City Council is scheduled to vote today on a project that could transform the area near the brand new Magic entertainment complex, Kia Center.

Millions of dollars will be invested in the project, which aims to attract more tourists to downtown, especially those visiting the theme parks.

The entertainment complex will include a hotel, apartments, entertainment facilities and an event plaza across the street from the Kia Center.
The project is in two phases, with the city providing startup funding for the first four years and up to $40 million by 2042.

The city of Orlando also plans to increase funding for construction of entertainment facilities.
In return, the city will be able to host 10 events a year without paying rental fees.
The city hopes the complex will attract enough business to cover costs, including major sporting events like NBA All-Star weekend.

If funding for the complex is approved today, construction is expected to begin later this year.
