Wear dancing shoes and boots. Music will soon fill the streets of downtown Tallassee.
Tallassee and Friendship Fire Departments will host the Sounds and Sirens Downtown Music Festival on Saturday, April 27th. This is an effort to bring activity to the town and raise money for the fire department. Tallassee Fire Chief Eric Jones said the downtown streetscape will be completed and it will be a great opportunity to enjoy it.
“We're trying to bring people downtown and provide entertainment for people,” Jones said. “It's really a night out for people to enjoy.”
The fire department worked through friends and networks to bring the three bands to James Street.
First up is Todd Gant and Mother Moonpie.
“He’s from Tallassee,” Jones said. “They've been together for a few years now.”
Brandon Jordan will also be on stage. Jordan is from the Holtville area. The final performer, Jesse Wilson, hails from Phenix City and now performs in Nashville.
The setup mimicked the one Jones and others collaborated on at the Tallassee Historical Society Street Dance, but the last two performances were canceled due to rain. The stage is currently scheduled to be located downtown somewhere between South Ann Street and The Gallery.
The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce is recruiting food trucks and the Community Development Corporation is providing portlets for restrooms.
This is the first time the fire department has organized a street dance downtown, but it has organized similar events in the past.
“We did that at the fire department training center seven or eight years ago,” Jones said. “It was a fundraiser called 'The Fireman's Fallout.'”
Tickets can be purchased through the link on the Tallassee and Friendship Facebook page or at www.soundsandsirens.eventbrite.com. Tickets are $20, children under 12 are free.
Jones hopes the festival will be a success.
“If we have a good turnout, our goal is to make it an annual event that brings people to the city and helps promote the city while raising money for the fire department,” Jones said.
