- Mark Zuckerberg is having fun in Japan.
- In addition to making and wielding a sword, Zuckerberg also found time to eat at McDonald's in Japan.
- The Mehta chief is embarking on an Asian tour and is scheduled to visit South Korea and India next.
Mark Zuckerberg is exploring Japan during his Asia tour. And in what appears to be the latest installment of Relatable Zuck's adventures, Meta CEO indulges in an activity that may be familiar to some American tourists.
Chief Meta began his journey with thread-worthy landscape photos of glistening snow-capped mountain peaks.
On Sunday, the martial arts enthusiast posted photos and videos of himself learning how to make and wield a sword. Curved, single-edged blades are commonly seen in Japanese pop culture and manga, and were featured prominently in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.
It's unclear whether Mr. Zuckerberg is a big fan of “The Bride,” but he did an excellent job recreating the Japanese anime's fantasy of swiftly slashing people with large knives.
Zuckerberg expressed his gratitude to the master swordsmith on Instagram, saying, “It was a truly special afternoon learning about sword making from the master blacksmith Shohei.''
And when it comes to food, Zuckerberg turned to an American staple: McDonald's.
“McDonald's in Japan: 10/10. Give these guys a Michelin star,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The billionaire posted a photo of a fast food meal that included two burgers, fries, Chicken McNuggets and two drinks.
Then came the less relatable part of Zuckerberg's journey. He met with Meta's developers in Tokyo and discussed AI with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Zuckerberg's winter trip to Japan is markedly different from Elon Musk's summer trip to Tokyo.
Musk has dubbed his August vacation “The Fast & the Fanciful: Tokyo Drift 2023.” Post to X. Musk also uploaded a video of himself and his son X visiting the glittering and ultra-Instagrammable teamLab Planets Tokyo exhibition in Odaiba.
Zuckerberg still has a lot to offer in Asia. A spokesperson for Mr. Zuckerberg told Bloomberg that Mr. Zuckerberg was in Japan for a “personal trip” and was scheduled to head to South Korea on Wednesday. The Mehta boss will end her Asian tour in India, where she will attend the pre-wedding festivities of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's youngest son.
Representatives for Mr. Zuckerberg did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment outside of normal business hours.
