Fort Worth detectives are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed during an argument between two people in the popular West 7th entertainment district late Saturday night.
The scene of a laid-back Sunday brunch left no visible traces of Saturday night's encounter with Fort Worth police in the West 7th Entertainment District. Officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 2900 block of Crockett Street around 10:15 p.m.
Investigators said when they arrived at the scene, they learned there had been a fight between the suspect, Bryson Rogers, 29, of Forth Worth, and another man. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a gun, shot Rogers multiple times, and fled the scene.
Forth Worth police said officers and medical personnel attempted to save Rogers' life, but the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Many of the patrons who went out for lunch on the quiet patio said they didn't know what happened the night before.
“It's kind of shocking to hear that,” Andy Silos said. “That’s what we’re experiencing right now here in Fort Worth.”
Silos said he used to visit West 7th most of the time at night, but recently he has started choosing the daytime entertainment district.
Ángel Estrada believes the area is safe overall, but there are growing uncertainties about safety at night in one of the city's most popular neighborhoods with bars and restaurants. I mentioned that.
“When you're here for the nightlife, it can be a bit nerve-wracking sometimes because you never know what's going to happen,” Estrada said. “Before, it was like, 'Let's just sit here and have a drink.' Now it's like, 'I don't know if I want to be out there.'”
FWPD pivoted in September to what it calls a proactive model, trying to encounter guns and potential violent perpetrators before anything happens.
The move comes after a TCU student was killed in an unprovoked random attack near West 7th Street on September 1, 2023, and the suspect was arrested.
Fort Worth homicide detectives were seen Sunday on Crockett Street trying to piece together more information about Saturday's shooting, but it was not announced whether any arrests had been made.
