Saint Florals discussed how to make your own DIY flower arrangements for Valentine's Day. After you create your own arrangement or obtain one from St. Florals, these tips will help your flowers last longer.
1. Cut off the last flower: According to Consumer reports.org, flower stems have a vascular system that sucks up water and nutrients to nourish the flower. If you don't cut them properly, air can get trapped in the stems when they emerge from the water, which can prevent them from absorbing water.
2. Place the flowers in water immediately and monitor the water temperature. Make sure the water is not too hot. Too much heat will damage the flowers. You want to keep the water at room temperature.
3. Remove dead flowers from the water. Dead leaves and flowers in a vase or under water will have a negative effect on fresh flowers.
4. Make your own flower food: DIY your own flower food recipes to keep your flowers fresh!
5. Change water frequently. Plan to top up the water and recut the stems every three days. This prevents bacteria from spreading to live flowers.
