Stylist Law Roach, Zendaya's longtime fashion collaborator, said he has all the receipts for how certain fashion houses have dealt with his customers.
In a recent appearance on her podcast, The Cutting Room Floor, Roach revealed that early in her career, the Big Five fashion brands refused to dress her at the Challengers actor's red carpet events. Told.
“If I write Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Dior, everyone will say no. Try again next year. She's too green. She's not on our calendar.” he said on the podcast.
“I still have all my receipts,” he continued. “By the time she arrived, [the cover of] In American Vogue, she had never worn any of those designers. She hasn't done that yet. ”
“The only time she wore Valentino was when there was a Valentino campaign,” he added. (Zendaya was chosen as the face of Valentino in 2020.)
Although Roach didn't reveal exactly when, Zendaya, who made her Vogue cover debut in 2017, has worn “Big 5” fashions in editorials, but has yet to wear them on the red carpet. She revealed that she is not wearing designs from fashion houses. Or during a press tour.
“I said, 'If I say no, it's forever no,' and that's been true for a long time,” Roach said.
Representatives for Chanel, Valentino, Gucci, Saint Laurent and Dior did not respond to requests for comment.
Roach has been styling Zendaya since she was a teenager.
Although he announced his retirement as a celebrity stylist last year, he has continued to work closely with the “Euphoria” star.
He told The New York Times in an article published last week that he and Zendaya called each other “fashion soulmates.”
The “Dune” star's looks have earned him plenty of praise over the years. She received the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2021.
Roach won the first-ever Stylist of the Year award at the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards the following year.
