Kristen Wiig said her IVF journey was “very difficult.”
The Bridesmaids actress, 50, conceived this way before giving birth to her now 4-year-old twins Shiloh and Luna with actor husband Avi Rothman, 46, via surrogate in 2020. She said she tried all the methods, but now she loves giving birth. Her mother's journey to get there was traumatic.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: When you're going through (IVF) you meet other people who are going through it, and it's almost like this secret little… whispered conversation at a party.
“I feel like not many people talk about it.”
The star continued, “It's a very private thing, but maybe it doesn't have to be.
“This is part of my story and how I ended up with a wonderful family.”
Kristen is famous for rarely being public about her family life and has avoided social media.
Despite her private nature, the actress told InStyle in 2020 that she and her husband tried IVF for three years before turning to surrogacy.
She also admitted that the choice to use a surrogate mother was difficult.
Kristen added: “When the doctor told me to go a different route, I just remember thinking, 'No.'” Don't bring it up again. I'm pregnant. I'm doing this. ”
But she said she was eventually forced to change her mind.
Furthermore, she added: And thank God, we found the most wonderful surrogate mother. ”
Kristen also called her journey to motherhood “bittersweet,” and said she has finally come to terms with the development.
She said: “Overall it was a very beautiful thing that happened, and now that I’m on the other side, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I've always believed that things happen as they're meant to happen, and this is how (our twins) were supposed to get here.”
