The Gracie Awards recognize outstanding contributions by women in news and entertainment, both in front of and behind the camera and microphone, and this year two members of the KPRC 2 News team will be recognized. News Special Projects and Producer Development Manager Erica Young won the Gracie Award in the Producer – Script category, and investigative reporter Amy Davis received an Honorable Mention in the On-Air Talent category.
Eric Young won for his story about Melody Chandler, an inspiring woman with a remarkable mission to teach children with special needs. Her travels took her to China and back to the Houston area. She is currently opening a school for special needs children in the spring.it is called Journey school for unique talents and talents. Ms. Young said what impressed her most was the innovative way Chandler schools met the needs of her students and their families. The parents she spoke to said it was difficult to find a school that would meet all their children's needs, giving them not only medical treatment but also education. While Journey School is staffed by teachers who provide traditional classroom education, we also have therapists on-site who work in a contract capacity. Some of the therapy techniques used by these therapists are considered transformative. It was amazing to see the difference the school was making in so many people's lives, Young says.
