LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Next to the STRAT Hotel and Casino and across from the 50-foot-tall Showgirls that welcomes locals and visitors to downtown Las Vegas, you'll find Atomic Golf, the Strip's newest entertainment stop.
But what exactly is Atomic Golf?
Atomic Golf is a “bigger, better and bolder brand of golf entertainment,” according to the venue's website. The Las Vegas flagship offers 103 golf bays spread over four floors, six full-service bars, a Tap His Room, and chef-crafted cuisine.
CEO Bobak Mostagasi described it at the opening ceremony Friday morning as “entertainment through golf.”
“The idea was to bring people together and have fun,” Mostagasi explained to 8newsnow.com. “The world is moving towards experiential, so when we were looking at the concept and really thinking about it, it was, 'Can we get people to see it as an entertainment venue rather than a golf venue? 'I think that's what we did.' ”
Even before you step into Atomic Golf's facility, you can tell that a lot of love and thought has gone into creating this place where “golf comes alive.” As you enter the building, which is made up of pillars that look like suspicious golf tees, you are greeted by a giant statue of the Atomic Golf logo.
“This is Atomic Golf!” Executive Vice President Brian Birkbichler said to cheers outside the venue Friday morning. “I've been waiting about four years to say that.”
The excitement continues as guests are welcomed across four fun-filled floors. A blend of country and pop music plays throughout the building, providing just the energy needed for an “entertainment-first” atmosphere.
“When you walk into the building, you feel comfortable being there,” Mostagasi added.
Immediately to the left is Astrocade, a sports and entertainment viewing zone with oversized screens showing up to eight different programs simultaneously. (You can watch basketball, baseball, and “Friends” reruns all at once!)
Colorful space-themed art adorns every visible wall, building on a strong theme. Wall-to-wall screens display a variety of moving art that brings the space to life.
Next to Astrocade is the Putting District, which offers a “modern putting game experience.” As Victor Vidal explained to 8 News Now, “It's mini golf meets video game!”
The ceiling above the clubs and games in the putting district has sensors that track the path of the golf ball. A screen in the putting bay tracks your score as you play “holographic” mini golf.
Atomic Golf's four floors feature more than 100 golf bays with a variety of games for golfers and non-golfers alike. You don't have to be a great golfer to have a good time, Mostagasi assured 8 News Now.
The Tap Room and Bar, located on the third floor, serves local beers from Arts District bars and breweries. One floor above him, on his fourth floor, is the Cosmic Lounge, which Mr. Mostagasi says has a nightclub-like atmosphere and serves his menu of tapas.
So what kind of games does Atomic Golf offer? We asked Creative Services employee Alex Duffin to give us an overview.
- xenobleach: A game for people who take long drives! Aliens have invaded your ship. Now is the time to fight back. (Secret tip: Aim at the gas tanks on either side of the alien and they'll explode!)
- Star cast: You have crash landed on an alien planet and are trying to survive. Find and target food, water, or mysterious books to keep the crew alive.
- Warp ship: It's a game where you and your team play against a group of other players and try to destroy the other team's ships. Perfect for large groups or competitive individuals.
- twenty one: Have you ever wanted to play blackjack and golf at the same time? Now you can! Players try to guess the cards for a total of 21 points.
- bullseye: Golfers who are striving to improve their accuracy, this game is for you! This game has targets for the player to aim at and a score is given based on the accuracy of the game.
- Longest drive: Do you think you have what it takes to hit the golf ball the farthest on your team? Well, let's put it to the test. Atomic Golf's netted field spans 216 yards, so there's plenty of ground to cover.
- Driving range: Just want to play golf? This is perfect for you!
Each bay has a men's and women's club for guests to choose from.
Before the game begins, Atomic Golf employees like Jose Martinez will lead you on a “bay tour” and explain all the rules of the bay and the game before it begins.
Reservations for Atomic Golf Bay and group events can be made on the venue's website. Rates per hour per bay vary depending on the day and time selected. According to the website, reservations can be made for up to eight people per lot.
Of course, after your golf game, be sure to stop by the gift shop at the front of the building for some themed memorabilia.
