A homeowner has revealed how she saved thousands of dollars by DIYing her driveway.
John Tozier said the company estimated it would cost him more than $8,000 to pave his driveway, but he shared with his family how it was done.
In her video, Todzia walked viewers through the products she used, including a time-lapse of the entire process, as other YouTubers praised and praised the results.
The YouTuber (@jontodzia3463) explained that he has been chipping away at the foundation of his driveway for about 2-3 years.
Mr. Tozzia showed how he had his children clean up a milling knife that had fallen into their existing driveway.
The homeowner also revealed that neither he nor his family had ever poured asphalt before.
Tozier said he bought a used roller and used a plate compactor.
The video showed a time-lapse of his team of family and friends laying and rolling the asphalt section by section.
Tozier said they used 35 tons of hot asphalt, making it about 4 inches thick.
He explained that the results were as expected and the driveway was completed with a lot of cash saved.
“I couldn't find any videos of people doing this themselves, so I just wanted to say that this is very doable,” he said.
“We were able to point out the flaws, but we paid less than half of the estimate from the paving company,” he added.
“It was a hard and tiring day, but it was worth it in the end.”
Tozier encouraged other homeowners to do it themselves if they can.
“It's possible for all you do-it-yourselfers out there, so give it a try,” he said.
Todzia's post received over 857,000 views and many comments from impressed and inspired viewers.
Several experts praised the homeowner's work.
