Local businesses are seeing a huge spike in orders as Mother's Day approaches. “This is a way to honor my mother and a great way for out-of-towners to be able to send something to her,” said Cheryl White, owner of Fidley Fig Florist. She talked about her popularity in giving flowers on Mother's Day. White revealed that the Friday before her Mother's Day is not only two to three times busier than a normal day. Increased demand has prompted florists to hire more staff and work overtime. “85% of people love receiving flowers, but 90% of people who give flowers feel even better than 85%,” White said. In preparation for her Mother's Day, White has rented six more cars to supplement the seven she already has. Usually used for shipping. “Leawood, Prairie she's Village, Overland she's Park, Brookside she delivers all day in Raytown,” she said. White also noted that Mother's Day and Valentine's Day are the busiest days of the year for her business. Despite her rush, White confirmed that she will still be accepting Mother's Day orders until noon Saturday. She also said that many of the additional drivers she hires for Mother's Day are also willing to fill in for other major holidays throughout the year.
