The Winona Arts Center, 228 East Fifth Street, will host “First Ladies Trilogy” on March 15 and 16 in honor of Women's History Month. First Ladies Bess Truman (1945-53), Mamie Eisenhower (1953-61) and Jackie Kennedy (1961-63) will appear in live stage performances over two nights.
Each First Lady will be presented once. The playwright's character, Bess Truman, will appear in a 90-minute performance, including a coffee house intermission, starting Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. Mamie Eisenhower and Jackie Kennedy will appear separately on Saturday, but on a double bill. Two separate performances will be held at the Coffee House on March 16th from 7pm to 9pm. Lacey Kove plays Jackie Kennedy and Kuhlman plays Mamie.
“What's especially interesting about these first ladies is that they are so different from each other. They have different personalities, different styles, and their husbands served one president after another, and they played key roles in the pivotal mid-20th century U.S. history.” “I created a snapshot,” the playwright said. Kuhlman said the portrayal will be interesting not only during Women's History Month, but also because it's a presidential election year, she promises.
Playwright Kay Sebring-Roberts Kuhlman created all three One Woman plays commissioned by the National Archives. The three solo plays have been performed at eight presidential libraries over the past 30 years. Now, Winona viewers can see them on her two-night series.
Tickets are available until 4pm on March 15th at Music Mart (formerly Hardt's Music) and on Eventbrite. Friday performances are $15. Saturday double rate is $20. To attend both nights and see all three performances, patrons can purchase a Trilogy Pass for $30. All ticket prices increase by $5 on the day of the event.
