The Duchess of Sussex will be a panellist for a discussion on women in media and entertainment later this month.
It will be held at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas on March 8th, International Women's Day.
The film festival describes Meghan as “a feminist, a champion of human rights and gender equality, a New York Times bestselling author, and co-founder of the Archewell Foundation and Archewell Productions.”
She will be performing at the event titled “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead on and Off Screen.”
Her podcast, Archetypes, about female stereotypes, aired for just one series before her lucrative deal with Spotify ended in 2023.
Organizers said Meghan will join other participants, including author Katie Couric and actress, model, entrepreneur and author Brooke Shields, to talk about the importance of representation in media and entertainment.
The event will introduce participants to “the visionaries at the forefront of news, media, entertainment and philanthropy who are breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes and working to create healthier societies on and off screen.” A certain female leader.''
Topics of conversation will include how the “ubiquity” of social media creates “a dangerous environment that can lead to serious mental health issues, especially for teenage girls.”
Founded in 1987, South by Southwest is known for its technology, film and television, music, education and culture conferences and festivals, and calls itself “an essential destination for global professionals.”
Last month saw a flurry of announcements from the Sussexes.
The duchess has signed a deal with Lemonada Media to record her new podcast show, and the company will distribute her previous series.
The couple also revamped the Archewell website, the foundation's name, and renamed it “The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
