Marlowe and I have made a lot of crafts together and I have to be honest…I think this is by far the cutest!!! Who doesn't love a little fuzzy love bug? ! Soon City! I wanted to come up with a fun craft for Rowie and I to do together, and I used a lot of craft supplies I already had on hand…and paper towel rolls…who doesn't end up with 50,000 paper towel rolls? Or? The result is this cute little love bug. Some lovebugs are larger, while others are smaller, fur-like. Love bugs come in all shapes and sizes. lol. Today I would like to share images and inspiration for creating your own Lovebug craft for Valentine's Day.
To assemble the love bug, start by painting the paper towel roll or toilet paper roll you will be using. I used different shades of pink and applied two coats. Let dry for several hours or overnight. Next, you can start assembling your love bug. I like to use a hot glue gun to do this, but you can also use regular glue. If your child is participating in a craft project, never let them handle a hot glue gun. For the big love bug, I added wings cut out of glittery contact paper, antennae cut out of glittery contact paper, pom poms, and googly eyes. The insect legs are completed using pipe cleaners! The body of the little love bug was made with medium-sized pom-poms, a heart sticker on its face, a heart sticker on its feet, and finished with googly eyes and pipe cleaner antennae. Display it or give it as a lovely Vday gift for him. I currently have several living on my mantle, in my office, and (oddly enough) in my bathroom.
I don't know if you've noticed yet, but our love bugs are also starting to take on a motherly vibe… While we were making them, Marlowe said that the big love bug looks like a mom, and the pom-pom love bug looks like a baby. I said it looks like. Well, it didn't take long for my 3-year-old son, who is obsessed with childbirth, to notice that the baby lovebug actually fits inside the mommy lovebug…and that's the pregnancy/birth lovebug. Now! Lol. very cute. If you have a mom (or mom-to-be) in your life who needs a sweet Valentine's Day gift, this might be just the gift.
I happen to be obsessed with pink every Valentine's Day (my favorite color!), and this little lovebug fits the bill perfectly. However, you can adjust the color scheme according to your needs. We hope you enjoy creating these pieces as much as we do.
