“We are thrilled to debut this new, out-of-the-box feature in Courthouse Square to become Downtown’s new hotspot,” said Katie Meyer, president of DDP. I did. “CURIO proves that big ideas can come in small packages, and that shipping containers can be transformed into hubs of community, connection, and collaboration.”
From May to September, DDP will program CURIO, a combination of lunchtime events on Courthouse Square Tuesdays through Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m., and themed social events every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. is.
“We want CURIO to be a destination for everyone. We have a wide range of events planned including live entertainment, fitness, games, pets, vendors and more,” DDP Special Events Manager Lynn Robertson said. “Whether you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up, a moment to unwind after work, or an opportunity to connect with your community, CURIO has you covered.”
Lunchtime entertainment includes Trivia Tuesdays with prizes, Workout Wednesdays featuring local fitness instructors, and Unplugged Thursdays with acoustic music and live DJs. Food vendors will also be set up in the courthouse plaza on weekdays.
On Wednesday nights, attendees can expect everything from vendors and karaoke to live performances, art classes and bingo.
CURIO's regular program at Courthouse Square begins on Tuesday, May 14th.
CURIO was supported in part by a $75,000 Community Placemaking Grant from the General Motors-funded Public Spaces Project.
“Courthouse Square is at the heart of our downtown, and CURIO helps emphasize its importance as a gathering space,” said Laura Woeste, DDP's strategic projects director. “Guidance, planning and input from PPS and our community will help CURIO and Courthouse Square become a contributing place.”
