Kent County Council is seeking local residents' views on the future of sexual entertainment venues, including shops and cinemas.
Swale Borough Council is consulting on an updated draft policy that sets out how related businesses will be managed and regulated.
Derek Carnell, chairman of the council's licensing committee, said the policy would allow authorities to check whether facilities were being run responsibly.
Currently, there are no sex shops in Swale.
The City Council approved the Sex Venues Policy in 2010 after new legislation gave it the power to manage and regulate sexual entertainment venues, including lap dancing and pole dancing clubs.
This policy was updated in 2021 and is currently under review to clearly define licensing authorities' expectations for sex establishments and to help understand the legal requirements.
In the event of an application, this policy will act as a guide for both the applicant and the person making representations to it.
Carnell said the “key policies” set out what Congress expects, what you need to do to get a license and the conditions you must meet to keep your license. Ta.
“While any application will be assessed on its own merits, this policy will give us the tools to ensure these facilities are well-located and responsibly operated. “We will provide it to you,” he said.
“This guidance takes into account factors such as the location of these venues relative to other sensitive buildings, visibility and the impact that customers may have on the area surrounding the venue.”
The consultation will run until April 26th.
