BAINBRIDGE – The Country Gentleman Tribute Band will perform at the Bainbridge Town Hall Theater, 15 Main Street, Bainbridge, on Saturday, February 24th at 7 p.m.
In 2005, Bill Yates, Darren Beachley and David Propst, members of Country Gentlemen for more than 20 years, met at a Cabin Fever picking party in Hampton, Virginia, according to a media release. . While there, they sang country gentleman songs old and new.
As a result of this encounter, Yates and friends created “A Tribute to the Country Gentlemen,” which was released in December 2006 on the MasterShield Records label in Bridgewater, Virginia. Yates then toured with the band and fronted it for nine years.
Yates passed away in 2015, leaving behind a musical legacy that included collaborations with bluegrass greats Red Allen, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, and, most importantly, Country Gentleman.
The band currently includes Mike Phipps on guitar. Vocals similar to “Charlie Waller”. Propst for mandolin and vocals. Banjo and vocals by Linwood Lunsford. Kyle Windbeck plays upright bass. And Beachley is in charge of dobro and vocals.
As further stated in the release, the band continues to play their songs of yesteryear as faithfully as possible, recreating each song, both vocally and musically, as it was originally presented and performed. I'm trying to.
