Billy Dee Williams had lunch with Star Wars heir Donald Glover and told him to “be charming” when playing Lando Calrissian.
The 86-year-old actor first played the smooth-talking smuggler in The Empire Strikes Back and reprized the role in the sequel film Return of the Jedi, while Glover continued the role in the spinoff. He appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story and is set to return as Landro in a new film about him.
Now Billy has revealed that the pair sat down over lunch together to discuss Lando, telling Radio Times:
“But I don't see him…I mean, as far as Lando Calrissian goes, there's only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character.”
When asked what advice he would give to his younger successor, Billy replied: “I told him to be charming. Just two words! That's all I needed to say to him. That's all I could think of.”
He added of Donald: “He's part of a whole new generation. He'll create whatever he has to create to bring the character to life. He's a very talented young man, very imaginative. I mean. , that's not what I say,'' he added. What should you do with your character at this stage?
“I was in charge of the 20th century, now he has to be in charge of the 21st century.”
When asked if he would ever return to the Star Wars world, Billy replied, “I'd be willing to sell my soul for a lot of money.''
After Landro returned in 2018's Solo, plans for a new Disney Plus series based on the character were announced.
However, last year it was revealed that the series was now being developed as a film, with Donald and his brother Stephen participating in the scriptwriting, but plans were put on hold due to the writers' and actors' strike that brought Hollywood to a standstill. Ta.
Stephen Glover spoke about the project in detail on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast: “This isn’t even a show…The idea now is to make a movie.
“Right now, because of the strike, all the information is like a phone call.”
