Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter are teaming up again – this time for the prequel to The Lion King.
Disney released the first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King on April 29, revealing 12-year-old Mufasa as another member of the star-studded cast.
The film, scheduled to be released in theaters on December 20th, explores the legend of Simba's father Mufasa through a series of flashbacks. With the help of Timon (Billy Eichner), Pumbaa (Seth Rogan), and Rafiki (John Kani), the film tells the story of the late jungle king and tells the story of Kiara, the daughter of King Simba (Donald Glover). “This story begins far beyond the mountains, beyond the light, in the shadows,” Rafiki narrates in the trailer. “A lion was born without a drop of noble blood. A lion who will change our lives forever.”

While the cast from the 2019 live-action film continues, including Beyoncé, Glover, Eichner, and Logan, the first part also features some fresh faces, including Kater and Kelvin Harrison Jr., who plays Hawk, aka Scar. Keith David plays Masego, Mufasa's father. Anika Noni Rose plays Afia, Mufasa's mother.
And with Lin-Manuel Miranda writing the songs, and him and Disney legend Mark Mancina producing, it's sure to include some catchy tunes.
Lin-Manuel said in an April 29 press release: “The Lion King has a great musical legacy with the music of great songwriters, and I am humbled to be a part of it. I'm proud.'' “We can't wait for audiences to experience this film in theaters.”
The “Hamilton” star also spotlighted artists and producers who contributed to the film's soundtrack, including Elton John, Beyoncé, Hans Zimmer and Labrinth.
The first part marks Carter's first appearance in the film series, but she had a notable role in her mother's music video for the Lion King soundtrack, “Spirit.''
