The research firm ranks AT&T, Comcast Business, Verizon, Hughes, Lumen, Windstream, and Zayo providers based on site share.
As of December 31, 2023, each service provider had at least 4% of billable carrier-managed SD-WAN customer sites located in the United States.
The research firm noted that five companies have maintained Challenge Tier ratings from mid-2023: Aryaka, Cox Business, MetTel, Spectrum Enterprise, and TPx.
In addition, two companies, Cogent (including T-Mobile's Sprint assets) and Fusion Connect, have moved from the Market Player tier to the Challenger tier in mid-2023.
Five of the seven 2023 US LEADERBOARD companies have achieved MEF 3.0 SD-WAN service certification, including AT&T, Comcast Business, Verizon, Lumen, and Windstream. Spectrum Enterprise is the only Challenge Tier provider with MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification.
Cable MSOs make money
One of the drivers of growth, VSG found, is that cable operators are making strides in selling SD-WAN to midmarket customers.
“Share gains were driven by cable MSOs and providers specializing in the midmarket business sector,” Malone said.
Charter and Comcast reported growth in their business services platforms related to security and cloud in their fourth quarter results.
Charter's commercial division was volatile in the fourth quarter as Spectrum Enterprise's revenue increased amid losses in its small and medium-sized business (SMB) division.
Corporate profits excluding wholesale increased by 6.1% from the previous year. Charter's enterprise sales increased 3.8% year-over-year, driven by his 6.5% increase in primary service units (PSUs).
Comcast Business' business service connectivity revenue increased 6% to $2.4 billion in the fourth quarter.
Cable TV MSOs noted that products like SecurityEdge resonate with small and medium-sized businesses. This product protects your network and its connections from existing and emerging Internet-related threats, such as malware, ransomware, phishing, and botnet infections, without requiring any additional hardware or software other than the Comcast Business Internet modem. Protect your device.
