Birmingham Folk Festival (BFF) showcases diverse expressions of folk music, including blues, bluegrass, and gospel. It will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission to the festival is free for all ages. Folk festival fans can listen to the Yellow Dandies, Underwood Spirituals, Early James, Earl “Guitar” Williams Band, Sahi On Ko Johnny, Byrd Family, Premiere de America, and Ramsey High School Band on the Avondale Amphitheater main stage. You will enjoy the performance by. Additionally, BFF will host food trucks, vendor tents, and entertainment and educational opportunities at his three different venues: the Rose Garden, Avondale Library, and Avondale United Methodist Church. Gulf Hot Air Balloon Festival
Celebrating 20 years of flying, the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held at OWA Parks & Resorts in Foley for the fourth year in a row. The festival will be held from May 2nd to 4th and will feature over 50 of his balloons from around the country, packed with the excitement of flying and family fun. Fun-seekers of all ages will enjoy the sight of hot air balloons tethered from approximately 30 to 40 feet in the air. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet a pilot and take a hot air balloon ride. The festival opens to the public at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Morning flights are scheduled between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. before the festival opens on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All rides are wind and weather dependent and require tickets. A Renew Our Rivers (ROR) volunteer cleanup at Lake Mitchell (Coosa River) will be held on May 4th. Cleaning supplies will be provided. For more information about the cleanup, contact Dale Vann at 205-910-3713. “Renew Our Rivers” is an award-winning national campaign started by Alabama Power in 2000. Since its inception, more than 131,000 volunteers have removed more than 8,300 tons of trash and debris from rivers, lakes, and streams in four southeastern states. Dates are subject to change. darter festival
Festival goers will flock to Avondale Brewery this year for the 11th annual Darter Festival. This event will be held on his Sunday, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. The festival, in partnership with the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!), will offer a fun taste of Hispanic cuisine, including Puerto Rican street food, Venezuelan cuisine, live entertainment, and children's activities. Advance general admission tickets are $10 and advance VIP tickets (which include food and drink from Luna Latin Cuisine and prime indoor seating) are $50.
