NiNE8, the London collective made up of DIY favorites Biig Piig, Lava La Rue, Mac Wetha, Bone Slim, Lorenzorsv and Nige, have released a new single titled 'Escape Artist'.
This is their first release since last year's mixtape “98 Nights,'' and the first taste of new projects to come from the group, who have released solo work under their own names as well as under the NiNE8 banner. .
Rava spoke to DIY about the process of writing and recording the song together: “This project was created during a group camp in rural Wales, where we lived together in a mountain hut, and is a product of our friendship. 'Escape Artist' is a song that immediately felt like a perfect fit. There was one. [and] I was honored to play that bass line. ”
Ngige agreed that the trip to Wales was a much-needed opportunity for them all to relax, saying: “We were able to take some time to reassess what everyone has been up to.” Expressing that musically has been such a joy, so I'm excited to share it with the world. ”
In particular, Mac explains the new song as follows. “'Escape Artist' is concerned with the circular loops we find ourselves in while living on the streets of London. Our lives go round and round, like the North Ring or the West Ring. This song is very emotional and cathartic. It was the first song we wrote together. To me, before we really got into the writing process for this song. , I felt like I needed to vent all my unprocessed emotions on the project.”
“This is a song that reflects how far we want to grow as individuals and collectively as friends for each other's lives,” Big Pig added. “Rarely do we have time to cook and create completely together, and music is a vessel through which we process our experiences.”
