light up! The Theater Company presents its final musical production of the season, “Footloose,” at the Lobero Theater. “Footloose” will be performed at the Lobero Theater from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26.
Based on the Oscar-nominated hit film and best-selling music, Footloose celebrates the exhilaration of youth, the wisdom of listening to each other, and the power of forgiveness.
This story depicts the conflict between a father who adores the son he lost and a young man who worries about the father who left him.
When Len and his mother move from Chicago to a small rural town, he is ready for the inevitable adjustment of starting at a new high school, but unprepared for strict local ordinances, including a ban on dancing. It hasn't been done yet.
“Footloose,'' enhanced with new songs and set to the rock rhythm of the Oscar- and Tony-nominated music, listens to the voices of young people and offers wisdom to guide them with a warm heart and an open heart. I'm exploring.
“'Footloose' is the culmination of a huge season for 'Lights Up!,' and we're thrilled to bring it to the Lobero Theater,” said director Amy Love.
“As our company has grown over the past six seasons, we look forward to taking the stage with the support of experienced industry experts and leveraging Robero's exciting resources,” she said.
When asked what was special about the show, Love said, “It was so much fun for the actors to work on 'Footloose.' The various relationship dramas between parents and teens, boyfriends and girlfriends, and grief-stricken families are instantly relatable to our age group and dramatic enough to feel very real to them. You can put yourself in a situation.
“The music is so catchy, it's no surprise that this is one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time. The dancing is high-energy, athletic, and a lot of fun to rehearse.”
Another element that Love focused on was the dynamic between the two cast members.
“This season's special cast of actors has allowed us to create a mentor cast (seasoned actors) and an up-and-coming cast (young talent),” she said. “It's so nice to see young actors learning from experienced actors.” In our group, we help them work on character development together and support each other in music and dance rehearsals.
