Hollywood business owners paid to install planters to prevent homeless encampments from impacting their stores.
The planters are located along the sidewalk near the legendary Sunset Sound Recording Studio on Sunset Boulevard.
Previously, the driveway to the store was inaccessible due to the large number of tents set up on the sidewalk. But now things look different in the region.
Video obtained by KTLA from the scene shows some tents still set up near the shopping street. But a short distance away, on the sidewalk, several planters are placed at equal distances to prevent homeless encampments from forming.
Studio owners took measures into their own hands to protect their businesses, installing planters and garden beds. They argue that authorities are not doing enough to address the problem.
Sunset Sound owners say they recognize the hardships faced by unhoused people, but they cannot allow a homeless encampment to affect their operations.
Sunset Sound Recording Studio was robbed in February. According to the owners, the perpetrators defecated on the drum set.
Last year, a recording studio was the target of an attempted arson attack.
Officials have vowed to address homelessness in Los Angeles County. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' Inside Safe Initiative aims to reduce the number of homeless people living on the streets and provide shelter for those in need.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Homeless Services, there will be an estimated 75,518 unhoused people living in Los Angeles by 2023. According to LAHSA, homelessness increased by 14% from 2022 to 2023.
