Sam Rubin, a longtime entertainment reporter for Los Angeles news station KTLA, has died. He was 64 years old.
His death was confirmed by a source close to the station, who said he died of a heart attack at home on Friday (May 10), shortly after finishing his regular Morning News segment.
“KTLA 5 is deeply saddened to report the death of Sam Rubin,” the station wrote on X. “Mr. Sam was a giant in the local news and entertainment world and a fixture on Los Angeles morning television for decades. His laughter, charm, and caring personality made him a household name. He touched everyone who knew him. Sam was a loving husband and father, the roles he cherished most. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. ”
Rubin was born in San Diego in 1960 and graduated from Occidental College in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in American studies and rhetoric.
He then joined KTLA in 1991 and settled in Hollywood. During his decades-long career with the station, he reached millions of viewers in Los Angeles and beyond.
“The Sam you saw on the air is the Sam that wasn't on the air,” Frank Buckley, Rubin's longtime colleague and friend, said while announcing Rubin's death on live television. “We will never forget all of us with whom he shared his mornings on television, and those he worked with behind the scenes at KTLA.”
Rubin is survived by his wife and four children.
