San Francisco city officials on Friday unveiled details of a proposed “entertainment zone” in the city's downtown financial district that would allow alcoholic beverages to be carried on the street during outdoor events and activities.

Officials said the proposed bill would establish a framework for future recreational zone designations and amend local open container laws to allow the operation of these zones. San Francisco's first entertainment zone will be located on Front Street between California Street and Sacramento Street.
The city was authorized to create entertainment zones under SB 76, a law authored by Wiener. If approved, local bars and restaurants would be allowed to operate and sell alcoholic beverages in designated areas as part of outdoor events held on the block.
The bill would allow three bars along Front Street – Schroder's, Harrington's and Royal Exchange – to sell open drinks during special events within the zone.
