HYPE, a popular four-piece cover band, is scheduled to perform at Kroner & Bear in June in a style that incorporates rock flair.
According to The HYPE singer Vanessa Oxford, the band was formed about four years ago. The members are Oxford, guitarist Cody Clinton, drummer James Webb, and bass guitar player Jeremy Coons.
Before they partnered, the musicians were used to playing together.
“Jeremy and James were in a band together for 10 to 15 years. Around Muskogee, I was in different bands, but we would sometimes play at each other's shows and help each other out. I knew them before I made The HYPE because I used to do a lot of things like that,” Oxford said.
Mr Oxford said everything fell into place perfectly after each member became available at around the same time. Clinton burst onto the scene this year as a new member of the band.
Oxford said the band plays a little bit of everything in the genre and is currently incorporating more '90s alternative music.
“We play pop, rock, country, hip-hop, all the Top 40 stuff. We also play classical and contemporary music, but it all has a rock flair to it,” Oxford said.
Mr. Oxford said that talent is what sets The HYPE apart from other bands, as well as their closeness off stage. Oxford said their sound is part of the process. Initially, their goal was to play music that attendees would enjoy and want to dance to.
“You can't deny the rock style of the guys in the band. Everything we did ended up with a lot of rock energy, so we kind of embraced that,” Oxford said. Ta.
Band members hail from several areas in northeast Oklahoma. Oxford is from Claremore, Clinton is from Ouraga, and Webb and Coons are from Tahlequah. Oxford said members are from different parts of the state, adding diversity to the group.
“Each community has its own niche,” the University of Oxford said. “People grow up with a certain style, so we can all bring that to the table.”
They frequently perform at Kroner and Bear, Cherokee Casino Tahlequah, Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson, and various festivals in the area. The group also frequently performs in Tulsa, where some of the band members currently live and various music venues.
