LOS ANGELES — Bill Skarsgård plays Boy, a deaf and mute orphan who lives under a totalitarian regime run by the evil and deranged Van der Kooy family.
Rescued by a mysterious shaman, Boy is trained to become the ultimate killing machine, seeking revenge after his family is murdered.
“Boy Kills World'' director Moritz Mohr told Spectrum News that he set out to make the kind of movies he grew up watching, movies that viewers would enjoy watching as much as he did. told the news.
Not a single word (other than maybe a scream or two) is heard from Skarsgård throughout the entire movie. Instead, his performance is all about facial expressions and body language, with depictions amplified by striking physical changes. He lost 20 pounds for his role and developed a lean and toned physique.
“Bill is a great actor, so it wasn't that difficult for him to do that kind of performance,” Mohr said.
But the vocal performance that we do hear from Boy, or at least Boy's inner voice, comes from an unexpected source. H. Jon Benjamin is the voice actor for the Fox animated series “Bob's Burgers.”
“That was kind of the basic idea of this whole thing: We have a boy with an old voice. It was just to make it special. To make this different. “To make it different,” Mohr said, “I thought it would be a great source of comedy and interesting scenes and interesting interactions.”
Although Boy Kills World is very gory and violent, but does not condone violence, Famke Janssen told Spectrum News that the film is like a video game. It’s so surreal,” she said.
How worried are Janssen and Brett Gelman that we'll end up living in a world like the one depicted in the movie?
“Isn't that already the case? We are also co-creating our own reality,” Janssen says.
“Unfortunately, certain parts of the world are like that,” Gelman said. “I'm worried that things will get worse. We have to remain hopeful.”
“Boy Kills World” opens in theaters this weekend. Starring Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe, Isaiah Mustafa, Andrew Koji, Yayan Ruhian, Famke Janssen, Michelle Dockery, and Brett Gelman.
